Carnival Cruise Line, part of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), is "The World's Most Popular Cruise Line®" with 26 ships operating three- to 24-day voyages to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England, Bermuda, Cuba, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia. The line currently has three new ships scheduled for delivery – Carnival Panorama™ in 2019, Mardi Gras in 2020 and an as-yet-unnamed ship in 2022.
Christine Duffy is president of Carnival Cruise Line, the biggest brand in the fleet of Miami-based global cruise industry leader Carnival Corp., the world’s largest leisure travel company. In addition to overseeing the fleet’s current ship operations, Christine spearheads Carnival Cruise Line’s growing footprint, including the addition of three new ships scheduled for delivery by 2022; the company’s $2 billion fleet-wide ship enhancement program; and multi-million-dollar investment in its enhanced homeport and port-of-call facilities.
She joined Carnival Cruise Line in 2015 after a successful tenure as president and CEO of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), and prior to CLIA, spent 10 years at Maritz Travel Company where she served six years as president and CEO. Christine is a member of the board of directors of Herschend Family Entertainment; the second vice chair of the U.S. Travel Association; a member of the Professional Advisory Board of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; and a member of The Committee of 200, an organization of the world’s most successful women business leaders. She was recognized by Moves magazine as a 2016 Power Women recipient for her work in serving as a role model for future generations of young women and has also been honored by the Convention Industry Council and the U.S. Coast Guard, among others.
In January 2018, Carnival announced NBA Hall of Famer and TNT commentator Shaquille O’Neal as their newly appointed CFO (“Chief Fun Officer”). In this role, O’Neal is tasked with lending his fun, larger-than-life personality and playful spirit to inspire America to “Choose Fun” with Carnival when planning their next vacation and in their everyday lives. In efforts to bring more fun to every aspect of Carnival, O’Neal will feature the first seagoing version of his popular “Big Chicken” restaurant onboard Carnival Radiance following her $200 million refurbishment in 2020. The menu will feature a mouth-watering variety of fried chicken favorites, all developed and taste-tested by the NBA Hall of Famer himself based on his own recipes. O’Neal was also the focus of a recent digital and social media campaign by the brand.
Building upon its leadership position in the cruise industry, Mardi Gras will be Carnival’s most innovative ship when it debuts in 2020. In addition to a number of never-before-seen innovations like the first roller coaster at sea, it will be the first ship in North America to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Additionally, Mardi Gras will offer an extensive array of popular Carnival guest favorites along with new exciting experiences, including Emeril’s Bistro 1396 created by legendary New Orleans chef Emeril Lagasse housed in the ship’s French Quarter, one of six themed zones. Throughout the ship’s 20 decks and in each of these distinctive areas, guests will find fun, memorable ways to create their own personalized vacation with dining, libation, entertainment, recreation, and relaxation options. Carnival looks forward to bringing these next generation ships to Grand Bahama, what will be a great destination for builds of this magnitude and innovativeness. In conjunction with the opening of the Grand Bahama port, Carnival will celebrate its 50th anniversary since its inception.
